A persistent, always-accessible checklist that greets new users and guides them through the essential first actions in your product. Unlike a one-time tour, this checklist remains visible in the UI so users can complete tasks at their own pace across multiple sessions.
Display this checklist immediately after account creation and keep it visible until all items are completed or the user explicitly dismisses it. It works best as a sidebar widget or bottom-right launcher that does not obstruct the main workflow.
Prompt the user to add their name, avatar, and job title. Link directly to the profile settings page and auto-mark this step when the fields are saved.
Ask the user to visit the main dashboard and spend a moment looking at the layout. Auto-complete this step when the dashboard page is viewed for at least 5 seconds.
Guide the user to create their first project, document, or record — whatever the core unit of your product is. Link directly to the creation form.
Encourage the user to invite at least one colleague by email. Explain that the product is more powerful when used collaboratively.
Suggest linking a tool the user already relies on (Slack, Google Drive, etc.) to show immediate network effects and embed your product into their workflow.
