A lightweight checklist that encourages users to fill out their profile incrementally. Each completed field unlocks better personalization, recommendations, or social features. The checklist gamifies profile completion by showing progress and rewarding each step.
When to Use This Template
Show this checklist after the initial welcome flow is complete, when the user has begun using the product but has an incomplete profile. Display it as a subtle prompt on the profile page or as a persistent widget until the profile reaches 100%.
Template Breakdown
Upload a profile photo
Encourage the user to upload a profile photo by explaining that it helps teammates recognize them and makes the workspace feel more personal. Offer drag-and-drop upload.
Add your job title and department
Ask the user for their role and department so the product can tailor content, permissions, and recommendations to their specific needs.
Set notification preferences
Guide the user to choose how and when they receive notifications (email, in-app, or Slack) to prevent notification fatigue and increase engagement.
Link a social or work account
Offer to connect a Google, LinkedIn, or Slack account for faster login, richer collaboration features, and easier team discovery.
Write a short bio
Invite the user to add a one-sentence bio that will be visible to their team, fostering connection and humanizing the workspace.
Best Practices
- Show a visual progress ring (e.g., 60% complete) on the profile page to motivate users to reach 100%.
- Explain the specific benefit of each field (for example, "Adding your title helps us show relevant content") to increase compliance.
- Do not block access to features based on profile completion; keep it encouraging, not gatekeeping.
- Offer a small reward (badge, custom theme, or extended trial) for reaching 100% profile completion.
