What is user segmentation?
User segmentation is a powerful feature that helps you target and understand a group of users that share some similar qualities. The full definition of user segmentation is that it's the process where you split users into segments or groups based on certain qualities/attributes. You can for example segment users based on location, language, subscription type, user persona, and many many more. With Produktly you can provide fully custom attributes that match exactly Your product, and segment users based on those. Also obviously you can combine multiple of these for even more granular filtering, e.g. "all paid users in United States", or "all business analysts on the free plan in Canada that speak French".
For example, a simple user segmentation could be free users and paying users. For the free users you might want to give a different product tour than for paid users: maybe you want to upsell them on some paid features, or for users that already paid you might want to give them onboarding product tour to those paid features.
User Segmentation in Produktly
We recently released first version of user segmentation in Produktly. With the fully new matching engine, you can easily select very granular users groups that you want to target your tours for. You can select from multiple preset filters, such as url, location, language, device type. For full user segmentation experience that matches exactly your product and its needs, you can use any custom attributes and values that you send to us. This could be basically anything, for example, you could send which plan user is subscribed to (free, premium, pro etc.), what their user persona is, when did they onboard, are they expert or new user etc. The possibilities are endless, and you can combine these in any way you would like.

At /user-segmentation, you can also view the users and information you have sent to Produktly, you can also see detailed stats like how many times they have seen, started and completed tours. In the future, you will be able to filter that view, and also create re-usable segments that you can then easily apply to the product tours and also do filtering.

How to integrate user segmentation to your product
Preset filters such as url, location, and language, are available for everyone out of the box, no additional configuration required. To fully integrate user segmentation with your custom values, you have to send that information to us. See this helpful article about how to integrate this to your product.
